Board of Directors (listed alphabetically)

Amanda Gallagher has been Vice President of the Board of Directors since mid August 2011 and joined the Board in April of 2011. She is a Systems Analyst at Utilities Kingston in the Utility Systems Department. Previously, Amanda worked as a Programmer Analyst for the City of Kingston. Amanda and her husband Richard have their son Reid in the Montessori program.

Dan Gurney has been on the Board since September 2009. He is a local contractor specializing in residential renovations and custom homes. He is also a landlord with one of his buildings being the KTS school site. He and his wife Jennifer (an Early Childhood Educator) have their daughter Dana enrolled in grade 3. In his rare spare time, Dan enjoys being outdoors with some interests being boating, riding ATVs, snowmobiling, golfing, and muscle cars. He believed by watching the school’s operations for years as a landlord, that KTS provided a good environment for children to learn and have a variety of experiences.

Sabena Islam joined the Board in April of 2011. She is a graduate of the University of Waterloo’s System Design Engineering program and is a Professional Engineer. She has modified her career path to focus on her family (husband Omar and sons Bilal and Kaamraan). She also spends much of her time in various volunteer positions. She has been an involved parent at KTS since her children first enrolled in the fall of 2008. She has been an active member of the Parent Teacher Council, a class representative, and a classroom volunteer. Outside of KTS, Sabena is an avid curler. She also volunteers her time at Cataraqui Golf and Country Club as a Junior curling coach and as a member of the Curling Committee. Sabena and her family also love to travel. Sabena is very excited about her role on the Board. She hopes to play a key role in improving communication at KTS and is a believer in action, not just words.

Rachel Koven has been President of the Board of Directors since mid August 2011 and joined the Board in October of 2007. She holds a Masters of Science degree in Community Health and Epidemiology from Queen’s University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Industrial Relations from McGill University. Rachel has worked as a Research Associate for Queen’s on a project exploring the integration of people with intellectual disabilities.

Anne McRory has been Secretary of the Board of Directors since mid August 2011 and joined the Board in April 2011. She holds a Master of Arts degree in Organizational Leadership from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington and Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from Eastern Washington University. She is a retired US Army officer who served for 20 years. She is currently a stay-at-home Mom and has been involved with the school since her daughter began Montessori in 2009.

Naresh Naran joined the Board in October 2011. He is the founder and CEO of Digital Security Concepts Inc, a Kingston headquartered Solution provider and Software Development Company specializing in products and services for the Physical Security Industry. The Naran family are residents of Kingston since 1993. Naresh and his partner Geeta have enrolled their younger daughter Priya in Grade 5 and is looking forward to contributing to the King’s Town community.

Graeme Smith originally joined the Board in September of 2007. He briefly resigned due to other commitments this summer, and recently rejoined in October 2011. He is a Professor and Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist at Queen’s University and is the Director of the Clinical Investigator Program for the University. Graeme is married (Sue Chamberlain) and has two children in the school. Outside of the school, Graeme has been the organizer and race director for the Kingston Kids Triathlon for the last several years. He is a great believer that we are role models for our children.

Rich Stephens joined the Board in October of 2011. He has a Master of Arts in Defence Studies from King’s College, London and has recently moved to Kingston from Cyprus. His wife, Anna, is in the British Army and is on attachment to the Canadian Forces here in Kingston and their 2 children are in years 3 and 1 at KTS. Rich was in the Royal Marines for 23 years and has a background in strategic planning, crisis management and large organisation leadership.

Michael White has been Treasurer of the Board of Directors since January 2011 when he joined the Board. He is also owner of Minotaur Games and Gifts.
