Montessori Preschool

The King's Town Montessori Program is founded on the philosophy and principles of the Montessori method of education. At King's Town Montessori, we offer each child an environment rich in opportunities for exploration and discovery. In this environment children fulfill their developmental potential as an individual and as a member of a group. Children are helped by the sensitivity of our staff whose expertise lies in knowing the interests and abilities of each child and in ensuring that they are challenged and nurtured as individuals.

We run a three-year program which starts when a child is two and a half to three years old (and toilet trained) and is completed after the essential third year – the Master Year (Kindergarten equivalent). This third year is the culmination of a child's learning from the previous two years. By the time a child is five years old they are ready to lead their fellow school mates by modelling peaceful behaviour and sharing knowledge with their younger classmates. After completing the Montessori Program children are ready to move into Grade 1 with confidence and a passion for learning.

Our Montessori Program runs five days per week. We offer a Part-Time Program (9:00am to 12:30pm) and an Full-Time Montessori Program (9:00am to 3:30pm). King's Town School aslo offers the option of a Part-Time Program with Afternoon Care (9:00am to 3:30pm).

Kindergarten

King's Town School offers a unique setting for students in Junior and Senior Kindergarten. Our full day program is based on The Ontario Curriculum for Kindergarten. Our approach is holistic and child-centred, and tailored to each student’s individual strengths and needs. Our small classes allow for an academic focus on the acquisition of early literacy and numeracy skills to create the foundation for early learning. French, music, visual arts, physical education and other off-site field trips enrich the weekly school timetable.

Grades 1 – 8

King's Town School provides students with a challenging core program in Mathematics  and Literacy, in order to gain a solid foundation. Our teaching methods are varied in order to accommodate unique differences and learning styles in a supportive environment.

As an independent school, we use the Ontario Ministry of Education Curriculum documents as a general guide, but owing to our small class sizes, we have the flexibility to extend the Ministry curriculum in both depth and breadth to challenge students and review content to meet individual interests and needs. Our program is both rich and broad. Our approach is holistic and child-centred and based on the students’ individual strengths and needs. All students take part in the following areas, many taught by suject specific teachers.

  • Mathematics
  • Literacy
  • French
  • Music
  • Visual Arts
  • Science
  • Technology
  • Physical Education
  • Social Studies (grades 1 through 6)
  • Humanities (grade 7 and 8 only)
